Giorgio Armani has died aged 91, the Armani Group announced. The Italian fashion designer, famed for his relaxed tailoring, dressed a string of world-renowned stars including Julia Roberts, George Clooney, Cate Blanchett and Lady Gaga. He was regarded as one of the most influential figures in fashion of the late 20th century.

Armani founded his eponymous label in 1975 with Sergio Galeotti. The brand became synonymous with understated luxury across menswear and womenswear and helped redefine power dressing in the 1980s after Gere wore Armani in American Gigolo.

Reports said Armani continued working until his death. He directed a couture show in Paris in July 2025 from Milan due to a short illness. A statement from the family said the firm would protect his legacy and carry the company forward with respect and responsibility. Tributes from fashion and film figures followed, with Donatella Versace, Cindy Crawford and Russell Crowe among those paying tribute, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni calling him an icon. The funeral is to be held privately, with a public viewing in Milan on 6–7 September at Armani/Teatro in Via Bergognone 59.
