Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig for €60m (£51.8m), the club confirmed. The 22-year-old versatile attacker can operate on the left wing or as a number 10 and has signed a five-year contract with a two-year option. Leipzig will receive a sell-on clause as part of the deal.

Simons travelled to London ahead of the move and is quoted on the club’s announcement video: “Noise? Don’t listen to it all, only what matters. Tottenham called and I answered.” On Tottenham’s website he added: “I’m really happy and can’t wait to get going. I’ve been dreaming of this for a long time. It’s a great club and when I met the Head Coach I knew straight away that this was the right place for me. I will bring flair to the team but also hard work and discipline. I want to do everything I can to win, for the team and also for the fans.”

The signing comes as Tottenham under new boss Thomas Frank seek an attacking midfielder after attempts to recruit Gibbs-White and Eze. It follows James Maddison’s knee injury, which is set to rule him out for most of the season. Simons began at Barcelona’s La Masia, moved to Paris Saint-Germain in 2019, and shone on loan at PSV in 2022-23 with 22 goals. He spent two seasons at Leipzig, recording 22 goals and 24 assists in 78 appearances before the move became permanent earlier this year. He will wear the number seven shirt, a number previously worn by Son Heung-min.
