A man was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after a tractor fell onto the motorway from a bridge following a crash on the A227 overbridge near Wrotham in Kent. Police said they were called to reports of a two-vehicle collision on the overbridge shortly after 11:15 on Monday.

The tractor then fell onto the central reservation between junctions 2 and 3 of the M20 after the crash. Kent Fire and Rescue Service and South East Coast Ambulance Service attended and remain at the scene. The M20 and the A227 were closed while emergency services deal with the incident, with drivers urged to use alternative routes. Footage circulated on social media appeared to show the tractor overturned, with railings bent in the central reservation. Large queues formed on either side of the bridge.

South East Coast Ambulance Service said it was called to reports of a collision involving a tractor and a lorry on the bridge at around 11:20. Several ambulance crews, a critical care paramedic and the local air ambulance were dispatched. The tractor driver was airlifted to King’s College Hospital in London with serious injuries. National Highways said a significant recovery and repair operation would be ongoing for some time, with the M20 closed in both directions between junctions 1 and 3.
