South Yorkshire Police have named the victim of the Doncaster helicopter crash as 70-year-old Peter Smith. The incident occurred when a helicopter crashed into a field in Bentley, near Doncaster, on Thursday morning. The pilot, a 41-year-old man, and two passengers—a 10-year-old boy and a 58-year-old woman—suffered only minor injuries.

Mr Smith’s family, sharing the tribute through the police, described him as a devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed making and fixing things and had a strong interest in aviation. They said he liked spending time with his grandchildren, enjoyed meals out with his wife and had a sweet tooth, and asked people not to speculate about the circumstances while the investigation continues.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch is working with South Yorkshire Police on a parallel investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash. The family asked for privacy as they come to terms with the loss.
