Pressure is mounting on Prince Andrew to give evidence before a US congressional committee about his links to Jeffrey Epstein. The King stripped him of his titles as prince and duke of York on Thursday night, and Buckingham Palace said the King and Queen Consort’s thoughts were with survivors of abuse. Members of the House Oversight Committee have urged Andrew to disclose what he knew of Epstein’s activities, while he continues to deny any wrongdoing. Democrat Representative Raja Krishnamoorthi said he would pursue a subpoena if necessary; outside the United States, enforcement would be difficult, but if Andrew travels to the US he would be under congressional jurisdiction and would be expected to testify. He urged him to come forward voluntarily to explain what he knows, so justice for survivors can be pursued and wrongdoing can be prevented in future cases.

Another congressman, Suhas Subramanyam, said he would like Andrew to appear before the committee to set out everything he knows about Epstein and the crimes involved, arguing this could help clear his name and aid victims. Spencer Kuvin, who represents Epstein victims, also called for Andrew to testify, saying he could shed light on potential co‑conspirators seen at properties in the United States and on broader matters affecting victims. The removal of Andrew’s titles was welcomed by victims, who viewed the action as recognising the seriousness of the situation.

The Metropolitan Police said it was aware of non‑recent trafficking allegations in 2015 relating to events outside the UK and an allegation of trafficking to central London in March 2001; after legal advice, investigators concluded that any such probe would largely focus on activities abroad, with other jurisdictions better placed to pursue the case. In November 2016 the force decided not to pursue a full criminal investigation. Attention has also turned to Royal Lodge as reports say Andrew will move to private accommodation in Sandringham, Norfolk, with a car bearing a private number plate linked to him seen leaving Windsor Great Park. Media reports claim he is set to receive a six‑figure payout and an annual payment as part of a relocation settlement; The Guardian cites a one‑off payment to cover the move and a regular stipend thereafter to prevent overspending, with the annual payment funded by the King and worth several times his £20,000-a-year navy pension (€23,200). The Times says Andrew agreed to leave Windsor after his ex‑wife Sarah Ferguson indicated she would depart the property; she will not move to Sandringham and must find her own home. Earlier in October it was announced he would stop using his titles but would remain a prince and keep his dukedom ahead of Virginia Giuffre’s memoirs, in which she accused him of sexual assault when she was a teenager. There have been allegations that Andrew tried to press the Metropolitan Police to pursue a smear campaign against Giuffre; police have said they are examining these claims, while the Mail on Sunday reported that he gave Giuffre’s date of birth and social security number to a bodyguard in 2011 to investigate. The Public Accounts Committee has written to the Crown Estate and the Treasury about the prince’s lease at Royal Lodge, amid public outcry over a peppercorn rent. Charles is moving forward with steps to remove Andrew from the official peerage, including a royal warrant and letters patent to strip the Prince and HRH styling, while the former duke is said to have agreed to surrender the lease after negotiations with the King’s representatives.
