A man was stabbed in an assault in Uxbridge that left a dog walker dead. Neighbours from a house opposite rushed outside with baseball bats to confront the knifeman and shield the injured man. The 45-year-old victim sustained life-changing injuries, and a neighbour said he might have died without the intervention.

Police said a 22-year-old Afghan national, who arrived in the UK in 2020 in a lorry, is in custody on suspicion of murder and attempted murder following the assaults. A 49-year-old man, named locally as Wayne Broadhurst, was killed, and two others were injured, including a 14-year-old boy.

Detectives are not treating the attack as terrorism. Officers are examining whether there is any link between the suspect and the three victims. The Metropolitan Police said the 22-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. Footage circulating online shows the suspect walking along a residential street as officers pursue him, with a Taser deployed. A neighbour described the deceased as a binman who walked his dog each day. Flowers were laid near the police tape as investigators continued their work.
