Diane Keaton dies aged 79
Diane Keaton has died in California at the age of 79, a family spokesperson has said, asking for privacy while relatives grieve.
Keaton rose to global prominence in the 1970s as Kay Adams in The Godfather films and through her collaborations with Woody Allen. She won an Oscar for Annie Hall and became closely associated with the film’s menswear-inspired look. Her other well known titles include The First Wives Club, Father of the Bride and the Book Club films.
Keaton never married. She adopted a daughter, Dexter, in 1996, and a son, Duke, in 2000. Her later work included Summer Camp and Arthur’s Whisky in 2024. In December 2024 she released her first solo single, First Christmas, and her Instagram posts remained active, with her last update in April featuring her dog Reggie. She continued to work with Woody Allen over the years, and maintained support for him after allegations raised by Mia Farrow in the 1990s.
