Taylor Swift has said her track Opalite is Travis Kelce’s favourite on her new album, The Life Of A Showgirl. The pop star spoke on The Graham Norton Show, which was filmed on Thursday and is due to air on Friday as the album is released. She said her father is excited about Opalite, and fans have speculated the song could reference her fiancé, the American football player Kelce, whom she became engaged to earlier this year. “My dad is very excited about Opalite, and it is Travis’s favourite,” Swift told the programme.
Opalite is described by Swift as a metaphor for finding happiness on your own terms, with the line “Growing opals in a lab is an interesting metaphor for making your own happiness; to rise above the trials and tribulations and be happy you did things on your terms.” The track includes the lyric “now the sky is Opalite” and a line described as “oh my god, never made no-one like you before,” set to a Fleetwood Mac‑style soft rock backing. The Life Of A Showgirl comprises 12 tracks, with Sabrina Carpenter as the sole collaboration on the title song, and was recorded in Europe while Swift was on the Eras Tour with producers Max Martin and Shellback.
Swift also spoke about her engagement to Kelce, saying she wanted to finish promoting the album before wedding planning. She noted he had “crushed it in surprising me,” describing a garden he had built at the back of his house for the proposal. The Graham Norton Show features the singer alongside guests including Cillian Murphy, Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith, Domhnall Gleeson and Lewis Capaldi; the programme is broadcast on BBC One at 22:40 on Friday.
