Greggs says sales rose in the latest period, but unusually hot July weather and a weak consumer backdrop trimmed growth. The high street bakery chain, which has 2,675 shops in the UK, reported a 6.1% rise in sales for the third quarter of 2025 compared with the same period a year earlier. On a like-for-like basis, growth at company-managed stores slowed to 1.5% year on year, down from 2.6% in the first half.

July heat kept customers away, but trading picked up in August and September. The company pointed to menu growth, including high-protein options such as egg pots and protein shakes, and seasonal items like the pumpkin spice latte and toffee fudge muffin. It has continued to open new shops with Tesco and Sainsbury’s as partners, and to relocate smaller stores to better locations. Net openings reached 57 so far this year.

Greggs said it is now aiming for 120 net new openings for the year, a touch lower than its previous target. The company told investors it was making “progress despite challenging market conditions”, and noted that consumer confidence has remained weak.
