The Duke of Sussex will return to the United Kingdom this week for the first time in five months to back BBC Children in Need and visit the Community Recording Studio in Nottingham. He is expected to make a substantial donation to the broadcaster’s charity to help fund work addressing violence affecting young people.

In London on Monday he will attend the WellChild Awards before travelling to Nottingham on Tuesday. His last visit to the Community Recording Studio in St Ann’s, Nottingham, was for World Mental Health Day in October 2019, shortly before he and the Duchess of Sussex announced they were stepping back from senior royal duties. He plans a private briefing with Children in Need, the Police and Crime Commissioner, CRS and Epic Partners, informal catch-ups with some of the young people he met previously, performances by CRS artists, and a short speech.

The trip comes as the Duke focuses on his charitable work, while the Duchess of Sussex is not expected to join him. She is pursuing other projects and promoting her lifestyle brand, As Ever, along with the latest Netflix release. The visit is set against a backdrop of long-running family tensions; the King and Queen have no public engagements planned this week, and Harry has previously spoken of reconciliation while acknowledging strain with his father, King Charles. Coach Core, which began as a Royal Foundation programme led by William, Harry and Catherine in 2012, is now an independent charity, and recent photos in London were seen as a potential sign of renewed dialogue between the brothers.
