About 100 firefighters and 15 fire engines were deployed to the Helios Building on Wood Lane in White City, the former BBC Television Centre site. The London Fire Brigade said the blaze is affecting the upper floors, with a restaurant, external decking and ducting alight, and an unknown number of flats could be affected.

One person was treated by paramedics and discharged at the scene, the London Ambulance Service said. Nearby properties were evacuated as a precaution, and a rest centre was set up for residents who had to leave their homes. The ambulance service said it was called at 03:13 and that crews included an ambulance crew, an incident response officer and a hazardous area response team. They added that one patient was treated and discharged at the scene and that the incident remains ongoing with responders on site.

The BBC was based at Television Centre until 2013, when operations moved to Broadcasting House. The Helios Building now provides 162 homes, along with a gym and a 47-bedroom hotel. Wood Lane is closed to traffic and residents have been asked to avoid the area. First reports of the fire came just after 03:00, and two 32-metre turntable ladders are being deployed as water towers to fight the blaze from height. The cause is not yet known.
