James Bubb, who now uses the name Gwyn Samuels, was found guilty at Amersham Law Courts of raping a child under 13 and committing related sexual offences against a first complainant. Jurors returned verdicts on four counts tied to that person: rape of a child under 13, sexual activity with a child, assault of a child under 13 by penetration, and assault by penetration. He was acquitted of one rape charge and one count of sexual activity with a child in relation to that complainant, and he was convicted of raping a second complainant. All charges relate to offences between 1 January 2018 and 2 April 2024, and one incident was reportedly observed by a dog walker, prompting him to pull his trousers up.
Bubb, 27, wore a black cardigan, glasses and a cream shirt as the verdicts were read and showed no expression before sobbing with his head in his hands. Judge Jonathan Cooper told jurors the case had been challenging and reminded them not to discuss it outside the jury room. Jurors deliberated for six hours and 32 minutes before delivering their verdicts.
Prosecutors outlined how the first victim was groomed online before meeting in person at a Christian festival a few months later. The girl described him as paranoid and said she was hidden in public, noting that her wristband was visible. She said he spoke frequently about his powers in his Metropolitan Police Special Constable role. The court also heard that he raped a second victim, a woman he met online after she had just turned 18, during an on‑off relationship from 2018 to 2023; she said he used BDSM and police‑style techniques to exert control and that the acts were not consensual. Bubb, of High Street, Chesham, Buckinghamshire, will be sentenced on a date yet to be fixed. An NSPCC spokesperson said the charity hopes the victims receive support and urged online platforms to improve safety for children online.
