Ukrainian flags will fly above Downing Street and several Whitehall buildings to mark 34 years since Ukraine left the Soviet Union. No. 10 Downing Street is among the locations where flags will be displayed on Sunday. A government spokesperson said the UK stands in solidarity with the Ukrainian people, including those who have made the UK their home, in the face of continued Russian aggression. The spokesperson added that support for Ukraine’s independence will be clear for all to see, and noted the Prime Minister travelled to Washington DC this week to work with allies to secure a just and lasting peace for Ukraine.

At the White House, Sir Keir Starmer met European leaders, including Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky, the NATO secretary general Mark Rutte, and French President Emmanuel Macron. He also met Donald Trump days after Mr Trump spoke to Vladimir Putin at an Alaska summit. After the meetings, Mr Trump posted on Truth Social about peace for Russia and Ukraine. Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov said there was no planned meeting between Putin and Zelensky.
