London Underground staff are set to hold a series of strikes next month as part of a dispute over pay and working conditions. The Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) said Tube staff will begin industrial action at different times from 5 September 2025 for seven days.

In a separate move, RMT members on London’s Docklands Light Railway will strike in the week starting 7 September 2025. The union said management had refused to engage seriously with demands on pay, fatigue management, shift patterns and reducing the working week.

RMT general secretary Eddie Dempsey said the workforce has a demanding role keeping the capital moving and that fatigue and extreme shift patterns are serious health concerns that have not been addressed for years by LU management. He added that issues around staff travel arrangements have created distrust and that the union would continue talks with LU to reach a negotiated settlement. A Transport for London spokesperson said TfL regularly meets with unions and noted a 3.4% pay offer in ongoing discussions. They said improvements had been made and that further engagement on fatigue and rostering was welcome, but a reduction in the 35-hour contractual working week was not practical or affordable; they urged the RMT to present its offer to members and engage rather than threaten action.
