Merseyside Police say a 47-year-old man from Liverpool has been released on bail after being arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence in relation to an incident reported by Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo during the season opener against Liverpool. Bail conditions prohibit him from attending any regulated football match in the UK and require him to stay at least one mile away from any football stadium. The inquiry into the incident remains ongoing.

In the match at Anfield, referee Anthony Taylor halted play in the 29th minute and a spectator was ejected. Semenyo later scored twice in the second half to help Bournemouth recover from a two-goal deficit, but Liverpool ultimately won 4-2.

The next day, the Ghanaian international posted on social media to thank his teammates, Liverpool players and supporters for standing with him, adding: “Last night at Anfield will stay with me forever – not because of one person’s words, but because of how the entire football family stood together.” He also expressed thanks to Premier League officials “who handled it professionally”.
